The Archaeology of the Eastern Parishes

Burghfield (‘open land by the hill’) and Wokefield (‘Wocca’s field’) were recorded in Domesday, although the parish of Wokefield was not created until the 20th century. Beech Hill (‘hill with beech trees’) parish was created in 1868. In celebration of the Focus On the Eastern Parishes exhibition, meet a member of West Berkshire Council’s Archaeology team (Beth Asbury) and delve deeper into the historic environment of these three paris Beth Asbury is West Berkshire Council’s Assistant Archaeologist with responsibility for the district’s Historic Environment Record and outreach.
