Online Talk: Canal People – Past and Present
This talk explores the many people who can be described as ‘canal people’, including canal builders from ancient China and Egypt, civil engineers of the Industrial Revolution and the navvies who built the canals. There are those who worked on the boats in peacetime and wartime, the people who founded the restoration movement and the various groups involved in restoring canals in the 21st century.
The speaker, Martin Buckland, has been interested in Industrial Archaeology from the tender age of four; he was initially inspired by the Great Western Trains passing through his hometown of Iver.
This talk will take place via Zoom. Bookings will close on Tuesday 20 October and attendees will then receive an email with the link to attend.
