Great Bedwyn Rain Gardens project celebration

12 June @ 6:45 pm - 8:30 pm

The charity Action for the River Kennet worked with the community group Great Green Bedwyn to create rain gardens in the village over the past year. It is the first project of its kind in the UK working with individual homeowners. Over 25 homeowners took part and now have rain gardens, rain planters and water butts. The school and doctor surgery have fantastic rain gardens and rain planters too.
The project has reduced water entering the sewage system from over 2,000 square metres of roof. This helps reduce river pollution, reduces flooding, and creates a more biodiverse and beautiful village.  All welcome to hear about the successes and lesson learnt from the project.

It is the first project of it’s kind in the UK working with individual home owners.

Rivers need clean, constant flowing water to thrive, and that starts the moment a drop of rain lands on your roof or in your garden. By building rain gardens we have;

  • Reduced pollution by keeping rain water out of sewers
  • Reduce village flooding
  • Reduced outdoor water use in summer
  • Improved soil health and created more wildlife friendly gardens
  • Created beautiful rain gardens to show to others

Over 20 homes in Great Bedwyn now have rain gardens, rain planters or new water butts, as well as the school, village hall and surgery.

Hear about the project at this event.

(You can also visit many of the gardens included for Great Bedwyn Open Gardens on Sunday 16th June).

This is a free event but numbers are limited so please book to attend to avoid disappointment.
