This is your annual meeting and your views are hugely important to us, so we are going to open the floor for you to explore our portfolio. We’re changing the format this year and intend to invite representatives from other areas of the community to celebrate all things Hungerford.

The following groups will have tables at the events with representatives who can answer any questions you have:

Recreation & Amenities/Youth Council
Hungerford Allotment Holders Association
Police
Town & Manor
Tourism & Economy Committee/North Wessex Downs
Finance & General Purposes Committee
Highways & Transport Committee
Environment & Planning Committee
Chamber of Commerce
West Berks Council
Smarten Up Hungerford
H2036 (Neighbourhood Development Plan)

In particular, this will be an opportunity for residents to make their comments on the last-named of these, the neighbourhood development plan. Community engagement is an essential part of this and your comments will, therefor, be influential.

Aldbourne Scarecrow Trail @ Aldbourne
May 18 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Aldbourne Scarecrow Trail @ Aldbourne | Aldbourne | England | United Kingdom

Aldbourne Scarecrow Trail returns again for 2019

Scarecrows will once again be appearing all over Aldbourne this year as the village prepares for its annual Scarecrow Trail, which takes place on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May.

Building on the success of last year’s trail, the organisers are planning a fantastic weekend of entertainment which this year includes 40 scarecrows and refreshments and a BBQ on the Village Green.

Residents, community groups and businesses have come forward to create an eclectic mix of scarecrows to fit this year’s theme – ‘Famous Book Titles’. So expect to see classic novels, favourite kids books and many more.

Organiser, Krystyna Hagerty, said “the popularity of the Aldbourne Scarecrow Trail has built up over the years. It is great to see the village coming together to make such wonderful creations. Villagers young and old have come forward to make scarecrows with both the village toddler group and the residents of the Aldbourne Nursing Home taking part. We are very grateful for the support of a number of local businesses including The Blue Boar, The Crown and The Post Office in Aldbourne and The White Horse Bookshop in Marlborough. Thanks to them we are able to offer fabulous prizes including pub meals, afternoon tea and book tokens.

The route provides an excellent opportunity to explore this picturesque village. If you want to take a break, refreshments will be available on The Green from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Scarecrow Trail sheets, available on The Green and outside the Community Junction, cost £2.50 with an additional trail for children costing £1.50. The children’s theme is ‘Children’s Songs and Theme Tunes’. For further details visit www.facebook.com/aldbournescarecrowtrail.

The event is organised by Aldbourne Churches Together (ACT). ACT is an integration of St. Michael’s C of E Church with the Methodist Church and assists with many activities in the village. One area of focus is working with young people and, through ACT, the churches are able to work closely with toddler groups, the school and teenagers fostering closer community links and support.

2019 Hungerford Trade Showcase @ John O'Gaunt School | England | United Kingdom

A joint John O’Gaunt/Hungerford Town Council enterprise

After two years of staging the Showcase during the school day, the organisers believe that a change would be beneficial and have thus chosen to hold it this year in the evening of Tuesday 22 October, from 6.30pm to 8.00pm. As before, this will be open to the public (who hitherto have often been unable to attend the day-time events).

This will enhance the annual parent’s evening which takes place at the same time.

The event will demonstrate the wide scope of jobs and career opportunities across a wide range of trades and sectors in and around the town. The aim, as in previous years, is to provide visitors with key pointers as to the skills and aptitude necessary to develop future career aspirations. Representatives from local colleges and apprenticeship organisations will also be attending.

If you wish to discover more about the carer and apprenticeship opportunities that exist on your doorstep, we look forward to seeing you there.

If you play a musical instrument, bring it along, or bring pots and pans to bash – we need to make as much noise as possible! We will walk around the orchard, blessing the trees and singing.

Garston Gallopers will be morris dancing, there will be mulled apple juice to toast the trees and quench the thirst after all the singing and pot bashing.

Find out who finds the bean in their fruit cake to be crowned King and Queen to conduct the ceremony.
