Didcot Railway Push and Pull Steam Event @ Didcot Railway Center
May 25 @ 10:30 am – 4:00 pm
Didcot Railway Push and Pull Steam Event @ Didcot Railway Center | England | United Kingdom

This is a Steam Day, so you will be able to view their collections of locomotives, coaches, wagons and buildings as described in the Centre Guide and in their Guidebook (available for purchase from their shop or at the entrance) and enjoy the various facilities and exhibits.

Discover Brunel’s Broad Gauge and the 1930s Engine Shed. Visit the GWT Museum and their restoration workshops. Watch the modern pasenger and freight trains from their Picnic Area.

You can walk around the only surviving steam age loco depot in its original condition, and get up close to their large collection of locomotives which are so much more impressive when seen from ground level. Why not explore the rest of the centre including the Archie Trail, the Science Learning & Railways interactive exhibition and visit their shop and refreshment room?

In addition, you will be able to:

  • Ride in coaches from the 1930s behind some of their Great Western steam locomotives, or in their Steam Railmotor or Diesel Railcar. We have two running lines, ‘The Main Line’ and ‘The Branch Line’ with trains normally running on either or both of them. You may ride as many times as you like as there is no extra charge
  • Watch the trains go past. There are frequent journeys on their running lines so you will have plenty of opportunity to take photos from vantage points alongside the tracks as well as ride on the trains

Check their Locomotive Roster to see what we expect to be running on your next visit.

You can buy tickets online at any time prior to the day of your visit – or buy them at the entrance on arrival.

Victoria Park Family Fun Day @ Victoria Park
Jun 23 @ 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Victoria Park Family Fun Day @ Victoria Park | England | United Kingdom

Following the success of last year’s event, Newbury Town Council will be holding a Family Day in Victoria Park on Sunday 23 June from 12 noon to 4pm.

There will be entertainment throughout the day which will include traditional Punch & Judy shows, face painting, dancing and singing on the bandstand with the Ragtime Theatre School, and Watership Brass.

There will be live falconry displays throughout the afternoon and Kennet Radio will be there too broadcasting live from the event and we’ll even have a Fire Engine for you to explore.

The local branch of ‘Rugby Tots’ will be coming along so you can meet them. They run groups for 2 – 7 year olds to develop their social and physical skills, in a fun, positive environment.

The Bowls Club are happy to welcome new members and the Club will be open for everyone to look around and have a chat about membership and how you can get involved.

The tennis courts will be open too, and as part of the ‘Nature Valley Big Tennis Weekend’, our coaches, the National Tennis Association, will be on hand to chat about classes and how you can get involved. Membership for a whole year for a family costs just £44 and with the new floodlighting, the courts are even more accessible for everyone and if you join on the day, you get 1 month’s free membership!   You can even book a FREE coaching slot for the day via our website.

Our children’s Splash Park will be open, as it is every day throughout the summer from 10:30am until 5pm so children can make the most of the day, and hopefully the sunshine.  The Skatepark will be open to everyone so come along and show off your skills.

The ‘Friends of Victoria Park’, a volunteer group who welcome new members, will be available at the event to discuss their involvement.

Newbury Town Council would like to invite everyone along on Sunday 23 June to see what’s going on and enjoy all the facilities on offer!.
