Jack Lukeman

8pm Croft Hall – Tickets £16

——————————————————————————————

Quirky and original
Jack Lukeman is an Irish singer-songwriter, performer, raconteur and a whole lot more besides. A platinum-selling, critically acclaimed artist in his homeland, Jack has recently devoted more of his time to winning a growing fanbase in the UK and abroad as a ‘special guest’ accompanying artists as varied as Jools Holland, The Proclaimers and Neil Sedaka. He is currently promoting Magic Days, his latest album of idiosyncratic original songs.

Jack is a compelling stage performer. He incorporates the theatrical and romantic sensibilities of the likes of Jacques Brel, but with genuine melodic appeal and a knack for creating his own ‘magic realist’ world peopled by all manner of unusual, picaresque characters.

“The most magnificent and enigmatic of performers.” Edinburgh Spotlight Magazine

Tomorrow’s stars
Join us for an evening of high-quality entertainment from some of the area’s most talented young musicians. We have been running these recitals for a number of years now and they provide a valuable performance opportunity for the players, who never fail to impress with their professionalism and flair. The standard of playing is exceptional and there’s always an exciting and diverse range of solo repertoire. Many earlier participants are now studying at leading conservatoires and universities.

This concert will feature works for flute, oboe, euphonium and recorder among others. Come and support these young players as they begin their musical journey.

Kelly Oliver + Said the Maiden @ ACE Space
Sep 28 @ 8:00 pm – 10:30 pm

Double Headliner

Both Said The Maiden and Kelly Oliver tour the country independently but were both part of the 10 piece “super group” The Company of Players.  The Company of Players line-up also included Lukas Drinkwater who appeared at ACE Space January and February 2019.

Kelly Oliver

Kelly Oliver is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and harmonicist, hailing from Hertfordshire and described by The Times as an artist who ‘blends traditional with bold, indie-pop’. She came to performing music a little later in life than many other of the rising stars of the UK music scene. After graduating from Royal Holloway, University of London and then travelling around Europe, Brazil and Argentina, her passion for folk music was ignited with a visit to Ireland.

Kelly tours the UK predominantly as a solo artist and was awarded Best Female Solo Artist and Breakout Artist in the 2015/2016 NMG Awards, as well as winning Best Female Artist 2016 in the FATEA Awards. She attended the Folk Alliance International in Kansas, USA, as one of their Official Showcase Artists and has performed in Europe on a debut tour of Germany and in Portugal at Costa del Folk Festival.

This is a very welcome return visit to ACE Space having previously appeared in June 2015 sharing the billing with Delly Welly Boot Band.

Said The Maiden

Said The Maiden are an award winning female folk trio from leafy Hertfordshire, singing traditional songs with exquisite harmonies.  Award winning and admired by many of the luminaries of the folk world, including Dave Swarbrick and Martin Carthy.

After the departure of violin player, Hannah Elizabeth, at the end of 2018 Said the Maiden have regrouped and relaunched with new member, Minnie Birch.  The trio is completed with original members Jess Distill and Kathy Pilkinton.

With their trademark three part harmonies and intricate guitar, woodwind, dulcimer and banjo, Said the Maiden sing songs of love, loss, sailors, soldiers and child eating witches. 2019 is set to be an exciting year for the group, who are back in earnest, with new songs and a sound that is bigger and better than ever.

The ACE Space team are chuffed to be one of the first venues to showcase the new, exciting, line-up.

Tickets: £12 (Earlybird £10 until 14 August or while stocks last)

Seating is normally informally grouped around tables in the main hall. Come early for the best choice of seats.
