Festival of Motorcycling @ Crofton Beam Engines
Jun 29 @ 10:30 am – 4:30 pm
Festival of Motorcycling @ Crofton Beam Engines | Crofton | England | United Kingdom

Saturday, Sunday 29th, 30th June 10.30 to 4.30

For our June steaming weekend we have teamed up with the Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum in Calne to offer an exhibition and talks on the history of motorcycling.

There will be exhibits covering over 100 years of motorcycling history including many rare and beautifully restored examples. Over both days there will be a talk by Roger Fogg illustrating the Social History of Motorcycling. Although the motorcar has risen to the fore in developed countries it is clear the two wheeled motorcycle was key to opening up undeveloped areas when roads were rough and fuel were in short supply. There is also a nod as to how the military use of motorcycles to move men and carry messages became a key part of military campaigns over the last 100 years and more.

We invite motor cycle clubs and classic car clubs to join us for what promises to be a full weekend. We have ample hard parking for our motorcycle visitors and a large grass area for cars.

Entry to the grounds and exhibition is free.

Our historic beam engines will be at work pumping water to the top of the Kennet and Avon Canal as they have done since 1809. This fact makes them the oldest fully working engines in the world still doing the job they were built for. Come and visit to learn how Crofton Beam Engines have survived and continues to thrive today.

The Engineman’s Rest Café will be serving fresh foods and drinks over the whole weekend.
