Upcoming Compton area events include Hamstead Norreys Apple Day and Compton animal talk. See below for details, plus regular events and group activities.
• Forty more homes for Compton
As we’ve mentioned previously, in late 2024, an application was lodged by Archel Homes to redevelop the former Baxter Healthcare sites at the junction of Wallingford Road and Horn Street in Compton. This will involve the “demolition of existing building and erection of 40 x residential units with associated landscaping, parking, drainage, open space and other associated works.”
You can see the documents, and make your comments, by visiting WBC’s planning portal and entering the reference 24/02809/FULMAJ. You can also click here to visit the project’s website.
As the matter has yet to be determined, and as there have been some changes made to the scheme, you can still comment on the application through the above link on WBC’s website. The matter has been called in by the ward member so the matter will in due course be decided by planning committee, hopefully in the next couple of months.
If any engagement events are planned by the developer in order to provide additional information to residents these will be given wide publicity, including here.
• Bin change day approaches
Not long now until the new three-weekly black bin collections start from Monday 22 September 2025. West Berkshire Council (WBC) is introducing this change, which has already proved effective in other areas, in order to encourage more recycling. See here for details.
As recycling bins will still be collected every two weeks, this means that every six weeks all bins will need to be put out at once. WBC has told us that the officers are aware that this might be an issue in residential areas with limited kerbside space. We’ve been assured that they will monitor the situation closely and work with collection crews to come up with any solutions required.
