Ellie Wheatley’s work experience blog 2025

I’m back! Yes, somehow Penny and Brian were happy for me to come back for three days and do some work experience with them much to my delight, although they may not have been so delighted….

Wednesday

On Wednesday, I met Penny at Educafe (a regular community event in Newbury) and we discussed some ideas for an article that would go on the website. We eventually settled on writing something about the increased use of Education, Health and Care Plans, (EHCPs) being issued and the government potentially looking to make changes to them.

I also interviewed some people who have or have had roles in regards to the management of these plans.

Thursday

I had to work from school, like last time as Thursday is when Penny and Brian produce their newsletter.

I continued my work on the EHCP article and looked at some research, facts and general information to provide evidence to strengthen the arguments that I was making.

In the afternoon, I went on a Zoom call to receive some training on how to add events to the website and subsequently added another event to reinforce my learning.

Additionally, I spoke with Penny about her thoughts regarding the beginning stages of my piece and what I could do to further enhance it with some simple changes.

Friday

Friday started with me heading off to Penny and Brian’s house and I discussed my article with Brian and polished it up with some changes. We also mulled over what we wanted to talk about on 4LEGS Radio later in the day.

Having done that, we then trotted off to the studio,  Brian and I chatted with Chris, the presenter, about what I’ve been up to since the last time I was on the show. In addition, we spoke of the article I wrote and what the experience working for Penny Post is like.

The final task was publishing this work experience diary abd my article which you can read here.

Thank you so much to Penny and Brian for allowing me to work with them and managing to put up with me. A feat worthy of an Olympic gold medal.
