The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust – latest news

The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust is restoring over 70 miles of canal and towpath. The East Vale & Abingdon branch of WBCT covers the historic line of the canal from Uffington, through the areas around Wantage and Grove continuing east to join the River Thames just south of Abingdon.

We meet at Wantage & Grove Cricket Club, Charlton Village Road, Wantage OX12 7HE on the first Monday evening of every month. We run the Sack House, a small museum in Wantage, and hold regular volunteer work parties.

You may already be aware of our work – especially if you use the towpath, which can be very muddy. Our volunteers keep the paths clear and put down woodchips, but we want to have an all-weather towpath surface suitable for buggies, mobility scooters and those less agile. We’re seeking grants for the work and plan to start at East and West Challow.

If you’d be interested in this worthwhile project, we warmly welcome volunteers to our monthly meetings or work parties. See our website for dates. Or you can just come and see what we’re up to. All are welcome.
