Newbury Building Society named Best Building Society at British Bank Awards 2025

Newbury Building Society has been named Best Building Society at the prestigious British Bank Awards 2025. At the same awards, the Society was also awarded the Best Building Society Savings Provider, seeing off competition from twelve other building societies.

Today, with over 78,000 members, Newbury Building Society is “stronger than ever”. The Society has around 190 employees and ten branches across Berkshire, Hampshire, and Oxfordshire. Its head office is, as you’d expect, in Newbury.

“We’re honoured to have received these prestigious awards,” Phillippa Cardno, Newbury Building Society’s Chief Executive, said. “As a mutual building society, our customers are always at the heart of everything we do, which makes these awards, which are based entirely on their feedback, especially meaningful. It stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment and consistently high standards delivered by our people —both to our customers and to one another.

“This achievement reflects the dedication of every colleague across our branch network and head office – it is a collective success that the entire Newbury team can take immense pride in. I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to our customers for taking the time to vote and share their experiences. Their support continues to inspire us to evolve and improve.”

The British Bank Awards, run by the UK’s financial review site, Smart Money People, are now in their eleventh year and celebrate customer-centric excellence across the financial sector, with more than 120 companies taking part. The awards are decided by votes from customers, with 178,000 cast during this year’s voting period.

These awards are in addition to the Society’s win at the UK Customer Satisfaction Awards 2025, where the Newbury Building Society was named “Trusted Quality Provider”.
