News from Hungerford’s Independent Shops & Businesses – October 2024

Hungerford is famous for its independent shops and businesses which make the High Street worth a visit. There is also a Heritage Trail you can enjoy while you are browsing the shops.

Inklings

October brings Halloween and we love to celebrate it.  There are lots of fabulous things to choose from and whether you are wanting fun things for the children to do,  Halloween cards to send or looking to decorate your home, we have lots to offer.

Christmas is appearing around the shop and all of the Advent Calendars are out.  We have a selection of special cards and charity packs out as many people are starting their Christmas shopping early.

October 2024 also brings a big Birthday for Inklings as we are 40 years old!

We are very grateful for all of the support that we have had since we opened in October 1984, without it we would not still be here. Thank you Hungerford.

Town & Manor and Hungerford Town Hall

October is upon us, so look out for the amazing show of colours on Hungerford Common as the berries and autumn leaves take centre stage.

Some of the cows have gone, but there is still a herd of 50 grazing and getting the occasional apple-pulp treat from Richard at My Apple Juice. They won’t leave until the end of October/beginning of November so please keep to the 30-mph speed limit and stay vigilant as the nights draw in.

The Kennet Valley Wetland Reserve project is still awaiting planning permission, there are always many questions to be answered and details to be finalised. In the meantime, the wetland team had a stand at The Newbury Show to raise awareness of this exciting wetland restoration project and were overwhelmed by the interest and support we received. We’ve added over 100 new contacts to our newsletter list and congratulate Colby from Hungerford for guessing the correct name of our frog: Ribbit

This Sunday, do pop into our monthly Antique & Collector’s Fair 9am to 3.30pm this Sunday 8 Sunday.

And remember Hungerford residents get a 25% discount on hire rates of the Town Hall complex.

Hungerford Coin & Stamp Centre

You have most likely seen on the news that the price of Gold has risen to new all-time highs. What this  means in real terms is that price of scrap gold has risen too and of course Gold coins such as Sovereigns.

Now is a good time to dispose of scrap gold – we are very keen to buy old chains bracelets rings necklaces etc even if damaged or broken. Our offers exceed those of gold buying centres and jewellers.

Please bring in anything of interest and of course coin and Stamp collections to evaluate.
