News from Hungerford’s Independent Shops & Businesses – July 2024

Hungerford is famous for its independent shops and businesses which make the High Street worth a visit. There is also a Heritage Trail you can enjoy while you are browsing the shops.

Town & Manor and Hungerford Town Hall

What a wonderful weekend spent commemorating D-Day in Hungerford; an event organised by Hungerford Town Council overseen by Councillor Jerry Keates. The Town and Manor was very proud to have gifted the Town Hall Complex to the event for the weekend. The Corn Exchange made a wonderful venue for the 1940’s Swing Dance on Friday evening with a twelve-piece band and everyone dressed up for the event. Saturday saw it filled with informative displays about rationing, make-do-and-mend as well as World War Two memorabilia and a display of photographs of sites in Hungerford ‘then and now’.
There was a host of activities for children, including a ration book trail around the town, which once completed was rewarded with a 2oz ration of Dolly Mixtures or Jelly Babies! Whilst the Town Hall itself hosted a series of talks on Hungerford and the surrounding area in World War II.
The Trustees were also delighted to give permission for the commemorative stone to be placed on Hungerford Common as a permanent reminder to the sacrifices made during this pivotal point in World War II.
We congratulate all involved in the organisation and delivery of an inspirational weekend commemorating D-Day. Well done Hungerford!

Looking ahead, do pop into our monthly Antique & Collector’s Fair 9am to 3.30pm on Sunday 14 July.

And remember Hungerford residents get a 25% discount on hire rates of the Town Hall complex.

Hungerford Coin & Stamp Centre

The last time the Labour Government were in power taxes were as high as 98p in the pound and we had rampant inflation.

Those in the know bought heavily into coins and stamps and prices went crazy.

This week the Country will learn its fate and already we are seeing increased interest in Gold and Silver as well as coins and stamps.

It is a good idea to diversify one’s assets.

Good luck whoever you vote for and do pop in to have a look at our fantastic stock or browse our website and of course we are always very keen to buy any old collections.
