Crime and Thriller book events in Hungerford and Wantage, June and July 2024

Crime is on the rise at the Hungerford and Wantage Bookshops – and they couldn’t be happier!

If you are looking for a great local night out this summer, there is a packed schedule of top tier crime writers coming to the Hungerford and Wantage Bookshops in June and July. Have an evening of entertainment over a glass of wine and listen to your favourite authors talking about everything from writing to seances, from their journeys inside the world of crime to what it’s like to see your character on TV.

In Hungerford

You can meet local author, Mick Herron, the man who created TVs favourite grubby spook Jackson Lamb, played by Gary Oldman, in the Slow Horses series. He will be in conversation with bestselling crime writer, Mark Billingham whose Detective Inspector Thorne is played by David Morrissey. They will be in Hungerford on Wednesday 19 June talking about writing and what it’s like to see your characters on TV. Book here.

International bestselling writers Adele Parks (Just Between Us) and Lucy Foley (The Hunting Party) will be in Hungerford on Wednesday 10 July for a fun-filled evening talking about their latest books, how they write and there might even be a quiz! Book here.

In Wantage

Alex Hay (The Housekeepers) and Lucy Barker (The Other Side of Mrs Wood) will be talking at The Blackbird on Tuesday 9 July about writing historical crime and mystery. The Housekeepers sees a Downton-esque household where the servants are plotting the heist of the century and Lucy Barker introduces us to Mrs Wood, the celebrated Victorian medium and her new apprentice who is not all she seems. And finally, on Tuesday 16 July, international bestselling author of The Couple Next Door, Shari Lapena will be in conversation with Sunday Times bestseller Claire Douglas talking about their latest psychological crime books in a crime and wine evening of sizzling summer suspense. Book here.
