Apprentice Youth Development Worker required in Marlborough

Marlborough Town Council currently has a vacancy for a Level 6 Apprentice Youth Development Worker – not for the faint-hearted!

Full time: 37 hours per week, permanent.

Salary: Apprenticeship Pay Scale/JNC SCP 9-11:

  • Year 1 JNC SCP 9 – £25,664.
  • Year 2 JNC SCP 10 – £26,341.
  • Year 3 JNC SCP 11 – £27,434.

Pay includes allowance for evening and weekend working and is awarded outside of national pay settlements for the duration of the apprenticeship.

Subject to further Council commitment and funding the post will move to JNC SCP 13 upon qualification (currently £29,606 as of 2024), with an expectation for two years continued service (minimum).

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate.

You will be working for a busy Town Council in a small, key and dynamic council team, leading on the development  of services and provision for young people ages 11 to 18 years, utilising Marlborough Community and Youth Centre, town events, as well as our other facilities and open spaces in the town. There will be a key emphasis on partnership working and developing and establishing a professional and sustainable local offer to the young people of Marlborough.

We are looking for a trustworthy, practical, enthusiastic, and positive person who enjoys meeting a variety of people and keeping up high standards. You should be able to work independently or in a team.

A varied work pattern means that this role requires unsocial hours, with a greater weighting on your time on evenings and weekends in keeping with JNC expectations.

 The youth work apprentice scheme has recently started which will enable you to become a professionally qualified JNC recognised Level 6 (degree level) Youth Worker. You will graduate with a degree in youth work on completion of the programme.

The apprenticeship course will last for three years, and the training will be a mixture of regular online lessons, course work and on-the-job training. Alongside this, you will be expected to work up to 3/4 evenings a week and occasional weekends. Your work location will be in based at Marlborough Community and Youth Centre.

Key requirements

We are looking for candidates with at least two A-levels or equivalent. You must also have your Maths and English Grade 4 or equivalent. You should have a strong commitment to working with young people and community-based youth services and have some experience of doing this.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo a satisfactory reference and Enhanced DBS check prior to final written offer.
