Volunteer magazine distribution co-ordinator/s required in Hungerford

Hungerford’s Chain Mail magazine is looking for a volunteer or a couple to take over the distribution coordination.

The job will take up two to three days, four times a year and will involve:

  • Arranging with the printer the date and place of delivery.
  • Taking in delivery of around 28 boxes of 120 magazines.
  • Printing out two copies of each drop plus extras routes as required each time. Split up one copy of each for convenor to give to their links.
  • Splitting up boxes and put together each drop – this can be anything from a bundle to up to three boxes.
  • Delivering all boxes and bundles in and around Hungerford.
  • Being on hand to step in to help with deliveries if holidays or sickness prevent your convenors or links completing their roles.
  • Updating and maintain records on Excel and Word.

Kathy and Tyrell Bossom have been doing this job since 2011 and have set up comprehensive records and systems enabling it to all run smoothly.

They don’t expect you to have to do the job on your own from day one and anticipate working together with you for at least two issues. However, they would like to have completely handed over the reins by the end of 2024.

A car is essential, together with a home computer and printer. A knowledge of Excel spreadsheets would be ideal but not essential as they can teach you the basics during the handover period.  It is quite a physical job with a lot of lifting which is why they are looking for someone younger and fitter.

The magazine comes out four times a year so your commitment will be around mid-May, August, November and February.  They try to get most of it out within a few days so that the convenors and then the links have as much time as possible to fit round weather and commitments to enable every household to have received their copy by the first day of the following month.
