Volunteers needed at Shaw Trust Charity Shop In Wantage

Shaw Trust Wantage currently  has vacancies for Volunteers.

Our charity shops are dedicated to making a positive impact in the community – join us as a volunteer and be a part of our team to support our cause to advocate for and support individuals facing disadvantages and breaking down barriers to inclusion.

Volunteering in our shops can help with…

  • Purposeful engagement: volunteering provides a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
  • Social connection: collaborative efforts help form diverse connections.
  • Skill growth: volunteering in our shops involves a range of skills including customer service, visual merchandising and stock management and supervising and mentoring other volunteers.
  • Stress relief: volunteering can serve as a positive distraction from daily stressors.
  • Physical activity: there’s always plenty to do, going back and forth from the shop floor to the stock room.

Flexible opportunities volunteering commitments can be as flexible as four hours a week, accommodating various schedules.

No experience needed; everybody is welcome. Whether someone is looking to make a temporary commitment or join us on a permanent basis, every contribution is valued.

Retail Volunteer role overview…

Whether you prefer to volunteer behind the scenes or in a customer-facing role, there’s plenty for you to get involved with.

Key tasks…

Provide support to the shop management team to enable the smooth and successful running of the retail shop. You will use your existing skills and develop new ones if you do not have previous experience in retail.

Volunteers can also be involved in the following tasks…

  • Welcoming and helping customers.
  • Stock preparation including sorting, steaming, and pricing.
  • Replenishing stock on the shop floor and organising displays.
  • Possible administrative tasks such as stocktaking.
  • Taking receipt of stock donations from the public.
  • Possibly operating the till and serving customers.

There are also opportunities to support the management functions of the shop through cash handling, key holding, and each shop also has at least one key volunteer who takes on supervisory responsibilities and deputises in the absence of the manager.
