Lambourn Carnival & Festival Summary 2024
After a very successful Carnival parade and Raffle ticket sales last year, we were delighted to be able to give small grants to several village groups: Lambourn Silver Circle (to help with days out and speakers), Lambourn Youth Junction (to help with additional equipment), Lambourn Environmental Group (to help with the next tree planting project), 4LEGS Community Radio and The Firefighters Charity.
Planning for 2024 Festival and Carnival will get underway in the spring with the first meeting at The Lambourn Sports Club on Wednesday 13th March @ 7.30pm. It’s a very friendly and informal meeting so please join us if you would like to get involved with this year’s Carnival at all! Did you know, you can be a part of the committee and still take part in the Carnival Parade itself?
And should you not want to come to the meetings maybe could help in other ways.
Please get in touch on lambournfestival@yahoo.com if you would like to meet us.
Please join our facebook group too!
Louise Wilkin and Lix Cox have stepped down from the Carnival Committee and we thank them for many years of dedication. So once again, may we remind you that if the Village wants the Carnival to continue, we need new people to come forward and commit themselves to help run it.
We welcome ideas for new events (and someone to put those ideas into action), and we desperately need people with basic admin and/or computer experience to help with the administrative tasks.
The Festival and Carnival Committee
Start planning your entry for Carnival on Sunday 27 August! The categories are:
- Large Float: over 25’
- Small Float: under 25’
- Horse drawn or equestrian
- Adult Fancy Dress
- Children’s Fancy Dress
- Family Fancy Dress
- Push and Pull
There are trophies and rosettes for the winners together with small cash prizes.
As well as the traditional Carnival Parade we will also be running some more Festival activities: see below
How to help
BUT WE STILL NEED MORE HELP to organise these events, and we also need a secretary who can work with Word. Nothing too onerous, honestly, just a bit of essential paperwork!
Please consider joining our friendly committee. If you want to show your support, please come to our next meeting (details on Facebook at Lambourn Carnival & Festival or phone Louise on 71468)

BONFIRE NIGHT PARTY
We are planning to hold our Bonfire Night Party at the Sports Club on
Saturday 4th November.
Reluctantly, we have had to cancel the Carnival Parade again this year. This decision was not taken lightly but we had to take a position before we were too committed financially, and we felt it was unreasonable to ask people to spend time and money working on their entries only to find, at the last minute, that restrictions still prevented Carnival from taking place.
The whole purpose of Carnival is for people to come together as a crowd, either taking part on floats, or watching in the street. We just did not know if this would be possible in August and whether people would be
prepared to take part.
But we have a “Plan B” which worked well last year:
Picnic on the Porch Sunday 29 August 2021
Like last year, we hope that as many people as possible will have a picnic or BBQ in their front gardens on the afternoon of Carnival Day.
Keep the spirit alive!
Decorate the front of your house, flat or garden and dress up, as if for Carnival. We will be awarding prizes for the best fancy dress and best decorations in 3 categories: Child, Group, House/Garden/Porch.
County Discos will again join us to drive round the village, playing music and providing entertainment for everyone.
Throughout August we are running some of our other regular events and competitions (old and new!) and Scarrotts Fair will be coming to Mill Lane, so please join us for some summer fun. We will also be holding the popular Carnival Raffle, with £200 First Prize. Tickets will be on sale at the Lych Gate in the Market Square on weekends in August.
