Silvers and a Gold for John O’Gaunt Mathematicians

Mathematicians at John O’Gaunt School in Hungerford took 3 Silver Awards and a Gold recently in the Senior Maths Challenge.

The UK Maths Trust Challenge requires entrants to answer a set of stimulating problems designed to make students think. Participants had an hour and a half to complete as many of the challenging mathematical problems as they could, online, under exam conditions.

Alice, Harry and Arwen all achieved Silver – representing the top 20% of students in the competition, whilst Cameron achieved an astonishing Gold, putting him among the top 7% of students. Cameron has been invited to go through to the next round, the ‘Kangaroo Challenge,’ later this month.

The students enjoyed a ‘celebration breakfast’ in school and Head of Maths, Mrs Harriet Smith, said – ‘we’re all just so proud of them – for accepting the challenge with enthusiasm and then doing so very well. They love their subject and relish tackling the mathematical problems that come their way!’
