Followers of precious metal prices will be aware of the current “Silver Squeeze” that is ocurring. Silver prices have jumped nearly 8% in the past two weeks alone with many forecasters suggesting much higher prices short term.

In 1979/1980 the Hunt Brothers cornered the silver market sending prices from $4.60 an ounce to $52 an ounce in a matter of weeks. At that time there was a worldwide surplus of silver amounting to over 200 million ounces.

This time around, 43 years later, there is a worldwide deficit of silver amounting to over 200 million ounces. Warehouse stocks have been exhausted with the bulk of the physical silver destined to China for solar production. Watch the price closely – it looks very interesting. Town & Manor and Hungerford Town Hall

We are delighted that the HAHA Summer Produce and Handicraft Show on Bank Holiday Saturday went so well. The Corn Exchange looked wonderful with over 30 tables displaying over 400 entries ranging from the heaviest marrow and Victoria sponge cakes to knitted vegetables and prize-winning carrots. Our Constable, Julie Lloyd, presented the cups with Christian Alba, from Christian Alba’s traditional Butchers; both very proud sponsors of this event which was held in the Town Hall Complex for the first time. Its already booked for next year: Saturday 24 August 2024!

Steady progress is being made with our Kennet Valley Wetland Reserve, with various surveys being undertaken and more groups being shown around the site, in fact the Hungerford Cubs are coming back for a second visit this term! Last week the project team, along with our water keeper, Rob Starr, met on site with the planning consultants, wetland consultant and eco-friendly building company. The team walked the site, looked at mown paths as potential board walk routes and discussed the project as a whole.
