Five a Day Garden is a horticultural charity situated in the beautiful village of Englefield. The aims of Five a Day are to improve the well-being of everyone in the local community by managing a growing space to provide gardening education, horticultural therapy and access to healthy, naturally grown produce.
Five a Day Market Garden project aims to engage the rural and urban community by:
- selling affordable, healthy, naturally-grown produce
- educating children, adults and older people within an outdoor therapeutic environment, with a focus on art, nature and fruit and vegetable production
- offering a wonderful volunteering experience to people keen to learn more about gardening.
We welcome new recruits to our wonderful team of over 40 volunteers – we think there are volunteering opportunities for everybody! We offer a wide range of opportunities such as:
- helping in the garden – you can be new to gardening or have some experience – all welcome.
- becoming a fundraiser for us. You (and perhaps your friends) might want to put on a cake sale, run a marathon or shave your hair. We can help with all the practicalities such as sponsorship forms and taking donations online.
- assisting with our educational work in gardening, conservation and art – no teaching experience is required, just a willingness to get involved and a sense of humour.
- helping out at our events – open days and fetes in the summer.
“It’s an ideal way to spend a few hours with lovely like minded people in wonderful surroundings, a great tonic, everyone should try it…” Val, gardening volunteer.
“I enjoy working at the market garden because it is a truly nurturing environment, where friendships grow as freely as the plants, and wherepeople thrive.” Debs, teaching and gardening volunteer.
