If you’re finding it difficult to get to your medical appointments, our friendly team are ready to help. We at the Burghfield and Mortimer Volunteer Bureau give our time and use our own vehicles to get you to your medical appointments hospitals, GP surgeries, dentists and opticians. You will be taken to your appointment from your home and we will wait with you and then take you back.
During the first five months of 2023 our volunteers have transported 473 clients to various destinations including John Radcliffe and Churchill hospitals in Oxford, Royal Hampshire County Hospital Winchester, Frimley Park Hospital, Townlands Henley, West Berks Community Hospital and all the NHS and private hospitals in Reading and all local GP surgeries, opticians and dentists in our area.
There is no charge. We simply ask for a donation to cover the office running costs and help with volunteer drivers for their fuel.
Drivers needed
Would you like to help your local community in this way and join our drivers?
Have you recently retired? Have you got a car and enjoy meeting people and chatting? Are you looking for a way to give some of your time to your community? If so, the Burghfield & Mortimer Volunteer Bureau needs more drivers and would welcome any of your time that you can spare (daytime Monday to Friday). An allowance of 50p per mile is available to cover motoring expenses.
