Creative volunteers needed by Interakt to support drama, dance and filmmaking for young people and adults with learning disabilities

Do you want to volunteer somewhere fun and exciting, offering invaluable support to the local community? Do you love the freedom of dance? Relish the excitement of drama? Would you like to volunteer alongside adults with learning disabilities as they learn how to make their own movies, or support them as they become part of a developing residential theatre company working alongside professional actors?

Interakt is a unique, established charity based in Newbury, offering drama, dance, and a whole host of creative activities to young people and adults with learning disabilities in West Berkshire.

We run daily classes from 9am – 3pm along with evening sessions and holiday clubs. Drama, dance, games, art and craft, and film-making are just a handful of the fantastic activities we provide on-site. We work alongside those seeking work experience, fun, and social engagement as well as offering bespoke care for our members with more complex needs.

Alongside our huge range of creative provisions, we also enable members to find mainstream opportunities in society through our relationship with the local council.

We understand just how challenging it can be for some of our young adults to make the leap from education to mainstream work and we guide those transitioning from Children’s Social Care Services to the care provided for adults.

Creativity is not just fun, it’s essential for wellbeing. It gives people a voice, an opportunity to connect, to learn, to feel empowered. We are passionate about caring for our members, watching them learn and grow in confidence. Volunteers are essential to our team and we would love to show you just what we do. We provide taster sessions to anyone interested in volunteering so you can see exactly where we are and what fun we have before you commit!

Facilities on-site include an accessible kitchen with washing machine, dryer and dishwasher.  We also have a disability access toilet and personal care facility with hoist and changing table.
