John O’Gaunt school in Hungerford celebrates its 60th anniversary on Friday 30 June 2023

Richard Hawthorne, head Teacher of John O’Gaunt, recently sent the following letter to parents and carers of those currently at John o’Gaunt School. The message is also intended for anyone who attended  the school since its foundation sixty years ago this month.

“As you may be aware, this year marks the sixtieth year since John O’Gaunt opened its doors to students.  I hope that you will share my sentiments that it is pretty amazing to think that JOG has been educating the young people of this super community for six decades!

“We’d like to mark this anniversary as a school and are asking for your help to do so.  On Friday 30 June, we will be holding a celebratory event in school with our students which will include a 1960s-themed sports day.  After school, we are inviting parents, carers, guests and members of the local community to gather in school for an afternoon tea. During the afternoon, we would like to be able to display memories/memorabilia from the last 60 years of history at JOG.

“This is where I’m hoping you may be able to help us.  Whether related to your child’s time here or if perhaps you were yourself a student of JOG in the past (or you know anyone who was) and would be happy to share pictures, anecdotes, fond memories, items or dare I say school work for this afternoon we’d love to hear from you.  We would obviously keep your things safe or make copies of anything if need be and would only keep them in school for a couple of days.  We will also be asking members of the local community if they have anything to add so please do spread the word!

“If you can contribute then please contact Paige Goodall at pgoodall@johnogaunt.excalibur.org.uk and use the subject “JOG 60th’”.  Whether you are just sharing some thoughts or have items that could be displayed, I’d really appreciate it if you could let us know by Monday 26 June at the latest.

“Whether you wish to send anything in or not, if you would like to attend the informal gathering on the afternoon of the 30 June, please can you RSVP Paige on the same email as above as we need to know numbers ahead of time for catering purposes.

“I feel personally very privileged to be able to be part of the rich history of this brilliant community school and I’m really looking forward to the 30th.  I hope that you will be able and willing to help us make this event even more special.”
