Hungerford Rugby Club girls get a taste of the big time at Worcester

Hungerford girls rugby club are mascots at Worcester

Hungerford Rugby Club’s girls’ section had a taste of the big time when they were special guests at Worcester Warriors’ Allianz Premier 15s fixture against Wasps. And their maroon and black shirts had a familiar look for Warriors players Carys Cox and Cara Brincat, who both began their rugby career playing mini-rugby with Hungerford.

The Triangle Field club only started offering girls’ junior rugby this season but they’ve grown quickly, and took 20 girls to Worcester. They were given a dedicated training session by Warriors’ coaching staff, including Scotland international Caity Maitlinson and Canada player Paige Farries – both Worcester players.

Hungerford’s girls then formed the guard of honour as the teams took the field, before watching Warriors beat Wasps 55-28, with Carys Cox grabbing one of the winner’s tries.

The girls met the Worcester team after the match and posed for photos with their new role models.

New players are always welcome. If you would like to join or have any queries, please contact Lou Evans at sec.hrfcjuniors@gmail.com or 07917 058523. You’re welcome to come along for two taster sessions before deciding if you wish to join the club.
