Rags2Reusables invite you to a DIY Draught Excluder Sewing Workshop on Tuesday 29 November at Brown Paper Loves yarn and button shop in Inch’s Yard, Newbury.
Time: 6.30pm – 8.30pm (11am workshop is full – please email rags2reusables@gmail.com to go on waiting list)
Book your place here: 6.30pm workshop
Cost: By donation to Educafe CIC (suggested donation £5)
Suitable for all sewing abilities from complete beginners to experienced hands, all are very welcome. This is a skill sharing opportunity. Rags2Resusables is a community focused upcycling project jointly co-ordinated by local duo Penny Locke & Julia Moore. The project promotes textile reuse through practical, inclusive and affordable workshops.
We will all be working in collaboration to make draught excluders to help keep your home warm. There will be plenty of encouragement and tuition on offer so you can learn hand sewing and embellishment techniques to transform preloved textiles into something useful and beautiful to have in your home or offer as a gift.
Please come and make some new friends, or why not bring one along with you.
What to bring with you:
- any favourite sewing kit you normally use (please don’t buy any new items as we will be able to supply anything you don’t have) and you don’t need to bring a sewing machine.
- any fabric scraps at least 1m x 30cms you have at home that you would like to use as your outer
- as many old socks as you can, be they odd, holey or just unloved! Why not ask friends, family or work colleagues if they have any spare too? Please wash and dry them all first and bring along to donate to the project. The more socks the merrier! We’ll be shredding and using these as our eco-stuffing for the draught excluders.
- a notebook and pen/pencil
The tutor will be Julia Moore – Fashion & Textile Creative & Upcycler.
