Hungerford’s Curve Gift Shop raises over £1,800 for community Hub as it celebrates its first birthday

The Curve Gift Shop at Hungerford Hub

The Christmas shopping season is upon us and with current economic and environmental news foremost in many minds it makes sense to shop local in 2022. Shopping local reduces carbon footprint and supports community businesses and high streets. Hungerford high street is certainly worth a visit with a wonderful selection of shops, cafes and restaurants. Among them is the success story that is the Curve Gift Shop.

Celebrating its one year anniversary this November, the Curve Gift Shop is located off the foyer of the Hungerford Library building known as the Hungerford Hub. The Hub is a not-for-profit community asset supported by Hungerford Town Council and Hungerford Library & Community Trust to ensure the continued provision of a library by West Berkshire Council.

Set up by trustees of the Hungerford Hub, the shop stocks a selection of art and craft by local artisans with at least 15% of sales of items going toward the upkeep of the Hub and is run entirely by volunteers. In its inaugural year, the Curve Shop has raised over £1,800 for the charitable enterprise.

Andrea Hodgkin, Manager at the Hungerford Hub, said: “We are so delighted with how the shop has gone from strength to strength. We would like to thank all our volunteers, stockists and customers. It is a fantastic asset for the town and a great use of the space.

The funds raised by the shop have contributed to the running of the Hub, which is a valued community space and to the Hub’s goal to become more sustainable. This year we have been able to install an Air Source Heat Pump. This technology is expected to reduce the building’s heating related emissions by two thirds (about 2.5 tonnes) of CO2 per year.”

Currently the shop is jam packed with Christmas gifts, decorations and cards: from felted reindeer, to soft knitted gloves, to children’s clothing and local photography. Their opening hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 10am-4pm and Saturday 10am-12pm and when the Gift Ship is not open items can also be bought via the library. Why not pay them a visit?
