Hungerford Nursery School – top of the class

Hungerford Nursery School centre is top of the class for learning outside the classroom

Hungerford Nursery has received national recognition for its commitment to taking learning outside the classroom (LOtC) and has been awarded the national LOtC Mark (Gold) by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom, the highest award of its kind.

“Being awarded LOtC Mark (Gold) is a tremendous achievement for all the staff and governors here,” said Head Teacher Suzanne Taylor. “It shows that we are providing our pupils with potentially life-changing opportunities. We’re thrilled to get national recognition for our efforts, and we look forward to continuing to develop what we do, to helping our children achieve their potential and to promoting the many benefits of taking teaching and learning beyond the classroom walls.”

The LOtC Mark is awarded by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom, the national voice for learning outside the classroom. LOtC is known to contribute significantly to raising standards and improving children’s personal, social & emotional development. It also contributes to the quality and depth of learning – see Ofsted, Learning Outside the Classroom – How far should you go? (published in 2008 and updated since, most recently in 2015). “Learning outside the classroom has many proven educational benefits as well as providing some of the most valuable and memorable experiences in a child’s school life,” Dr Anne Hunt, Chief Executive of CLOtC explained. “Achieving LOtC Mark (Gold) demonstrates that Hungerford Nursery School Centre is a leader in providing learning experiences outside the classroom and that these sessions are a genuine part of the everyday life of the school, are available to all of their children and young people. I congratulate them on achieving this award.”
