Valley Film Society in East Garston

We are pleased to announce our line-up of films for Season 17 on the first Tuesday of the month in East Garston Village Hall.

As well as an evening screening of each film, with a cash bar and Nippy Chippy take-away ordered for the interval, we have introduced a matinee screening with subtitles starting at 2.30pm, with tea and cake served beforehand. Please contact if you need transport to and from the village hall.

Tickets cost £6 per film or you can join for the whole season for £32.

Season 17

1 November –  The Duke. Starring Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent – In 1961, Kempton Bunton, a 60 year old taxi driver steals Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. A comedy with humour and lots of love. ‘ We are convinced that the Goya has been stolen by a highly professional, international criminal gang’. 

6 DecemberBelfast. Kenneth Branagh delivers a beautiful, heartfelt film about a family in 1969 Belfast.

3 JanuaryOperation Mincemeat. A bizarre and seductive cinematic blend of high-level espionage and ingenious fiction, where the stakes could hardly be higher. Starring Colin Firth, Matthew MacFadyen and Kelly McDonald. ‘Our target is Greece’.

7 FebruaryA Quiet Weekend. Filmed at Cornbaggers in East Garston in 1946, this is a gentle story about the ordinary and extraordinary adventures of a British family and their various guests during a weekend in their country cottage.

7 MarchDownton Abbey   A New Era. The Crawley family goes on a grand journey to the South of France to uncover the mystery of the dowager countess’s newly inherited villa.

4 AprilSpencer.  Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s estate. There’s eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game, but this year, things will be profoundly different.

2 MayThe Apartment. ‘Movie-wise, there has never been anything like “The Apartment” love-wise, laugh-wise or otherwise-wise!’ Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine star.

6 June – Eco film/ documentary to be announced

4 July – Mini film festival with details to be announced

Membership & Guests
Membership for the whole season remains £32. Guests are welcome to pay £6 on the door.

Matinee screenings, doors open at 2pm and tea and cake is served before the film starts at 2.30pm.

Evening screenings, doors and bar open from 7pm and Nippy Chippy takeaway can be ordered for the interval.

Please bring cash to cover any payments as we do not have a card machine.
