Trout for Tea and Vitamin D!

Berkshire Trout dish vit D

Did you know that trout not only tastes delicious but is rich in vitamin D and also rich in omega-3?  Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of unsaturated fatty acid that may reduce inflammation throughout the body. Inflammation in the body can damage your blood vessels and lead to heart disease and strokes.

Vitamin D, despite its slightly misleading name, is actually a hormone not a vitamin. During the summer months we get vitamin D from the sunlight which absorbs into our skin, however, during the winter months we only get low levels of vitamin D through lack of light. Therefore, including vitamin D rich foods into your diet can be very beneficial, particularly during the autumn and winter months. Vitamin D helps to regulate the amounts of phosphate and calcium in the body and aids in the formation of strong bones, better teeth and helps keep our muscles healthy. Lastly, in addition to all these benefits it is thought that vitamin D may be involved in regulating inflammation and in immune responses.
