Volunteers needed at Loose Ends in Newbury

Are you looking for something worthwhile to do?

Loose Ends Newbury is a well-established drop in-centre for anyone in our community who may otherwise go without a hot meal. Serving good quality food in a safe and friendly environment is our prime objective but we also give out essentials such as mini food parcels, clothes, sleeping bags and toiletries. We offer a warm welcome and liaise with other agencies so that we can make a difference to people’s lives.

We are run entirely by volunteers who give up their free time and we are currently looking for new people to come along and help us.  We moved to new premises in May and are now based in the Clubhouse of Newbury Cricket Club in Northcroft Lane.  Volunteer tasks include setting up ready for sessions, preparing and serving food, giving out tins and toiletries to our clients and of course clearing and cleaning  up the clubhouse at the end of service.

We currently open Monday and Tuesday for an early lunch, Wednesday and Friday for breakfast and on a Sunday for a later lunch.  If you are available for a few hours on any of these days why don’t you think about joining us? You should be friendly and non-judgmental and willing to get stuck into anything. In return for giving up your time you will be working alongside a team of friendly people and be providing a much-needed service.

Each session has a supervisor and at least three other volunteers. Our Rota Manager sends out a request well ahead for volunteers on a monthly basis and volunteers indicate which sessions they are available for; so there is flexibility as to when you volunteer. We do ask that, generally, volunteers commit to at least one session a month although most do more than that.  Once you have got to know us, and how we work, we also hope that some new volunteers might want to become supervisors and perhaps get involved in other areas such as fundraising.

We pride ourselves on our high standards and ask volunteers to complete an online Food Hygiene course if they prepare or handle food.  We also periodically provide training in other relevant areas such as Behaviour Management, First Aid and Drug Awareness.

If you think this opportunity might be for you then please contact us on our recruitment email: recruitment@looseendsnewbury.org or take a look at our website www.looseendsnewbury.org.

We look forward to hearing from you!
