Lambourn Festival & Carnival – August 2022

Carnival

Great news that the Carnival will happen again this year on Sunday 28 August, will all the popular Festival events and competitions leading up to it (see schedule below). So start making plans to join in the fun and enter the parade and help make this a carnival to remember!

The parade starts from the Sports Club field in Bockhampton Road; judging is at 4pm and we set off at 5pm for a leisurely circuit through the village, finishing at around 6 or 6.30pm back at the Club.

How to enter the Carnival Parade

Entry forms can be downloaded here or picked up from various outlets in the village or on the Lambourn Carnival facebook group. For more information call Liz on 01488 72027.

  • Large Float: over 25’ long (large lorries or flatbeds, articulated transporters etc)
  • Small Float: under 25’ long (smaller flatbed or vehicle/car with trailer).
  • Horse drawn or equestrian
  • Adults Fancy Dress (any adult, individually or a group, on foot)
  • Children Fancy Dress (any child of any age, individually or a group, on foot)
  • Family Fancy Dress (any mix of adults and children, on foot)
  • Push and Pull (any non-motorised means of getting around the circuit: bikes, wheelbarrows, scooters, prams & buggies – or use your imagination)

Entry is free and there are CASH PRIZES to be won, as well as the familiar trophies and rosettes. Points are awarded for originality, colour and content, homemade elements, and overall effect. So, get thinking, get dressed up and join in the fun!

To admire the entries before the parade starts, join us for the judging and presentations at the Assembly Field (Lambourn Sports Club). Then you can watch the parade as it goes around the village via Bockhampton Road, Station Road, the Market Square and Mill Lane. Please be aware that to allow free flow of the parade, statutory parking restrictions will apply to many roads in the centre of the village and we will operate a rolling road closure, so if you are driving around or through the village during the afternoon expect some minor delays.

Carnival Raffle

Alongside the help we receive from our lovely sponsors, the raffle is an important source of income to help pay for Carnival and the Festival events as well as the November Firework Party. It is also plain good fun to enter! First Prize this year is £200 (donated by Lambourn Garages) and we have lots of other good prizes to win, including a family joint of beef from Rooksnest Estate, Sunday lunch at The Plough and the Queen’s Arms and Afternoon Tea for Two at Blandy’s, Inglewood. Tickets are on sale at Universal Stores and other outlets in the village and we will also be at the Lychgate in the square every Friday and Saturday morning in August.
