Hungerford Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

Hungerford Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

As the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee approaches, plans are afoot to commemorate this magnificent achievement in true Hungerford style. Town and Manor have invited local groups to decorate the trees that line the High Street, flags will be flying and this is the schedule of events in town:

Thursday 2 June: Jubilee Beacon Lighting

Join us for a celebratory evening at the Triangle Field for the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon. The Rugby Club will be open from 8pm serving food and drink and Hungerford Town Band will be in full swing. The new Hungerford Jubilee shield, commissioned by Hungerford Town Council from local metal craftsman Ray Doncaster, will be on display.

The appointed beacon lighting time is 9.45pm in conjunction with beacons across the whole country.

Sunday 5 June: Jubilee Picnic & Entertainment

We’re looking forward to lots of joy and celebration at The Croft on Sunday 5 June. There will be live music, bar and food for your Jubilee Picnic on the Croft Green (between the tennis club and The Croft Club). Bring your own picnic, rugs and chairs (but not your dogs, please). On the Croft Field (between Hungerford Nursery School and the canal) there will be lots of stalls, fun and games: plus the Jubilee Make & Bake Competition (see class information below).

For safety reasons, the road will be closed in the Croft area so please walk if possible or park (for free) at the Church Street carpark (between the library and fire station) or the Station Road carpark.

The CHAIN Handybus will be helping with transport for those who are less mobile, leaving the bus stop at Redwood House at 2.00pm and 3.10pm calling at Lancaster Square, Priory Road bus stop (by the RC Church), and ‘One Stop’ and then going to the Croft. At 2.40pm and 3.50pm it will pick up at the junction of Sanden Close/Homefield Way, then go on to call at the car park in Ramsbury Drive and Canal Walk before going to the Croft. Seats will be limited, and we will not be using the tail lift.  Boarding will be by way of the steps.

All timings are approximate. A small donation to CHAIN is requested of £2 is requested for the return journey. Return journeys will be provided as required from 4.30pm. Priority will be given for those who used the bus to get to the Croft.  Further details can be obtained from Ted Angell on 077998 86597 or 01488 682610
