Catching Up With Our Thatcham Quiz Winner

Last November, Penny Post ran a quiz about Thatcham with a prize hamper of £250 worth of vouchers from a variety of Thatcham businesses. Of over fifty participants, there could only be one winner. This honour went to Geoff Gosney, a Thatcham local for over twenty years.

We caught up with Geoff to see how used his vouchers and to find out which of these he enjoyed the most.

Here’s what he had to say.

“My first stop was the busy Friday market held on Thatcham Broadway. Here, I acquired some high-quality yet affordable lamb mint chops from the Cook & Butcher, even more delicious as they were free! Afterwards, I spent my next two vouchers at Warings Bakery and Crazydayz Doughnuts to cover dessert, (not all for me). To offset this sweet excess, I returned home with a bagful of fresh fruit from Miller-Ward Market Fruit and Veg.

“All this hiking around Thatcham Broadway took its toll on my wife, Pavla, whose shoes became in dire need of resoling. So, we spent my next voucher at Steve’s DIY, whose fast and professional handiwork soon restored the pair to as good as new.

“Neither I nor anyone else in my family drinks besides my two sons. So, naturally, any liquid refreshment of the alcoholic kind falls to them to gratefully consume. On one of their routine visits to The White Hart, one of Thatcham’s oldest public houses, their first round of Berkshire brews was on Penny Post!

“Since I haven’t owned any hair since 2001, the pleasure of a fresh trim at Legend’s Barbers on the High Street also went to my eldest son, (though not on the same night).

“I am a big football fan but I decided to gift my voucher to attend a free game at Thatcham Town FC to our neighbours, all lifelong Thatchamites and staunch supporters of the club. I understand they are waiting for better weather to make the most of this treat!

“My involvement in the quiz proved most rewarding when it introduced my family and me to Kingsland Café, a quaint and hospitable venue with friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. The café also serves a delightful and clean Full English Breakfast that has convinced us to become regular visitors every Friday!

“Overall, I was pleased with the impressive variety of prizes and would urge anyone to become involved in similar future opportunities. These competitions are an enjoyable and effective way to promote local businesses and test your general knowledge!”

And there you have it. Thank you for updating us Geoff and enjoy the rest of your prizes!
