Hungerford Repair Café

November 2022 Repair Café

Hungerford Repair Café opened its doors again on Saturday 19 November in the Croft Hall to help visitors with their broken or worn items in an enjoyable and social setting.

There were a variety of things to mend including a teddy bear that had lost an ear, a coffee grinder and a sewing machine.

Our goal is to promote the idea of repairing things at home and thereby to reduce the impact of waste on our planet. Our volunteer fixers helped to repair over 80% of the items brought in, keeping about 83 kg of waste out of landfill or other recycling facilities. One visitor commented “Wonderful, thank you so much, everyone is so helpful.

The café served tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits to volunteers and visitors.

Our next Repair Café will be held on Saturday 28 January 2023 in the Croft Hall in Hungerford.

September 2021 Repair Café

Hungerford Repair Café had another successful day on Sunday 19th September 2021 helping forty visitors to fix their broken items in the Town Hall.

There were all manner of things to fix including a broken circular saw, a damaged antique clock face and a room heater.

The volunteers helped to mend 63% of the items brought in and were able to advise the owners about how to fix a further 23% of them.

The café served tea, coffee and biscuits to volunteers and visitors alike.

Our aim is to help our community learn how to repair their own things in an enjoyable and sociable setting.

We also saved about 84 kilogrammes of waste going into landfill or other recycling facilities.

Our next Repair Café will be held in November. The date and location will be published on local social media sites including those of our supporters in Rotary and H.E.A.T.

We would like to thank the Town and Manor for the use of the Town Hall, free of charge.
