Hungerford’s CHAIN Car and Handybus Service

The CHAIN Hungerford car service is operated for those who may need transport for medical and health appointments. This transport is provided by volunteer drivers using their own cars or CHAIN’s own two vehicles, a 12-seater Handybus and the ‘Chairman’ vehicle which can carry a passenger in a wheelchair and two accompanying passengers.

The CHAIN office is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 11am and can be contacted on 01488 683727. Passengers pay a fare for our car services and are asked to contribute to costs for transport by Handybus.

The Handybus services include:

  • A weekly Wednesday trip to Tesco. Picking up from 9am and dropping back home by 11am.
  • A fortnightly Wednesday afternoon trip into Hungerford.
  • Two trips to Newbury a month.
  • Weekly trips to Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool in Swindon. This is a charity-run warm water facility for those who may feel that such exercise would be beneficial. The pool is great for rehabilitation. CHAIN has a one-hour closed session starting at 12.30pm each Wednesday. The bus leaves Hungerford at 11.30am and returns at around 2.30pm. Price per attendance is £12.00 including transport.
  • The bus is also used by local groups for transport.

For details about these trips, contact Ted Angell, the Handybus Co-ordinator on 01488 682610 0r 077998 86597.

HANDYBUS DRIVERS WANTED!

All Handybus trips are driven by dedicated CHAIN Handybus volunteers. Each trained driver takes one or two trips a month – which represents about two half days per month. We are always keen to add to the team. The work is very rewarding and our passengers are hugely appreciative of the work the drivers do.

If you are over 25, have a category D1 on your driving licence and have a little time to spare each month for the benefit of the community, it would be great to hear from you.

Please contact Ted Angell on 01488 682610 or 077998 86597.

Our team greatly appreciates your support!
