If you live or work in Newbury, or visit the town (even occasionally) your views are needed.
Many thanks to everyone who completed the first public survey in January about the future of Newbury. West Berkshire Council needs your help one more time.
On the basis of the responses to the first survey, the Council has come up with specific proposals which they need your input on, to ensure that Newbury will continue to be a successful, modern market town.
Please take a few minutes to complete this second survey (whether or not you did the first one) on the Newbury Town Centre Masterplan by midnight on Friday 30 July 2021. Please also pass the link to this post to anyone you know who spends time in Newbury, particularly if they’re under 25.
More about Newbury Town Centre Masterplan Project
The Newbury Town Centre Masterplan project was set up by West Berkshire Council. The first steps were an online survey, followed by extensive engagement with the local community and a detailed analysis of the town’s needs.
Since December 2020, the Council has been working with HemingwayDesign, NEW Masterplanning, UrbanMovement and GL Hearn to prepare the new Vision and needs feedback from residents to take it to the next level.
Meetings and workshops have been held with a range of businesses, residents’ groups, students and other stakeholders. The initial public survey received over 4,000 responses and the Council has come up this draft Vision for Newbury Town Centre which reflect those responses. With your help, they want to ensure that Newbury will continue to be a successful, modern market town and that it:
- promotes its heritage and independent identity;
- is innovative and entrepreneurial, able to respond quickly to economic change;
- is social and welcoming, where people gather to meet and celebrate;
- is green in the widest sense, promoting sustainability, biodiversity and healthy living;
- listens to the needs of its urban and rural community.
Do you agree that this is how you’d like to see Newbury develop? Please give your further thoughst and feedback in this second survey which closes at midnight on Friday 30 July 2021.
The results will be collated to inform the preparation of the final draft in early autumn. This will then set the formal planning framework for the future regeneration and development of the town centre.
Lynne Doherty, Leader of West Berkshire Council said. “We now need everyone to tell us how they think we’re doing on this project. This is an important phase of the process and we’re asking people to take the survey and let us know whether they feel we’re on track. We want as many people as possible to give their opinions.”
The survey takes around seven minutes to complete.
