Crofton Engine

Crofton Beam Engines on the Kennet & Avon Canal between Great Bedwyn and Burbage (six miles south of Marlborough) is open on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Monday through to the end of September 2021. When the engines are not in steam, tickets may be purchased on arrival. Advance tickets are required on steaming days to help the hard-working volunteers and staff regulate visitor numbers to the site, and keep COVID safe.

In June 2021, there was great excitement as the boiler was fired up for a public steaming for the first time since 2019. Over 200 visitors saw the Boulton and Watt beam engine perform the role it was designed for in the 19th century. Industrial heritage in action in Wiltshire!

The next steaming day will be Saturday 24 July 2021 (steaming on the Saturday only).  Advance purchase of timed tickets is essential for entry to the site on Saturday 24 July.  Full details of ticket prices via Crofton Beam Engines – Art Tickets

The café is closed however you are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in the grounds, where new picnic tables have been installed. For more information please visit the Crofton Beam Engines website.
