Reluctantly, we have had to cancel the Carnival Parade again this year. This decision was not taken lightly but we had to take a position before we were too committed financially, and we felt it was unreasonable to ask people to spend time and money working on their entries only to find, at the last minute, that restrictions still prevented Carnival from taking place.
The whole purpose of Carnival is for people to come together as a crowd, either taking part on floats, or watching in the street. We just did not know if this would be possible in August and whether people would be
prepared to take part.
But we have a “Plan B” which worked well last year:
Picnic on the Porch Sunday 29 August 2021
Like last year, we hope that as many people as possible will have a picnic or BBQ in their front gardens on the afternoon of Carnival Day.
Keep the spirit alive!
Decorate the front of your house, flat or garden and dress up, as if for Carnival. We will be awarding prizes for the best fancy dress and best decorations in 3 categories: Child, Group, House/Garden/Porch.
County Discos will again join us to drive round the village, playing music and providing entertainment for everyone.
Throughout August we are running some of our other regular events and competitions (old and new!) and Scarrotts Fair will be coming to Mill Lane, so please join us for some summer fun. We will also be holding the popular Carnival Raffle, with £200 First Prize. Tickets will be on sale at the Lych Gate in the Market Square on weekends in August.
