The Church Bells of All Saints’ East Garston are in desperate need of attention to keep them ringing now and into the future. The smallest bell, known as the treble, has a crack so it is now out of service so our 6 bells are now 5 and those that are still in service need work doing to them.
The total estimated cost is £50,000 and so far over £32,500 has been raised which is amazing and enough for the work to commence. The bells & their fittings should be removed in May for the necessary repair/restoration work to be carried out at the premises of our contractor. The treble bell will be going to Soundweld in Newmarket for the specialist welding required. We are hoping to have all the bells back in the tower ready to ring for Christmas.
We have had an offer of help with the transportation to and from the contractor’s site & extra manpower to aid the contractors in the removal and re-installation of the bells. The help is much appreciated & does help to reduce the final invoice.
Over the next few months the final £15,000 needs to raised to finance the completion & cover any unexpected eventualities.
There is a sponsored walk on Saturday 9 April and anyone wishing to donate can do so using the Good Exchange funding platform here: thegoodexchange.com/project/18811/all-saints-church-east-garston/save-our-bells
We are also running the “Save our Bells” lottery again for a further, starting in June 2022, application forms will be delivered door to door in May.
In the planning we have a showing of the film “A Quiet Weekend”, an old-fashioned Beetle Drive and another Village Treasure hunt with refreshments in the village hall. We are always open to suggestions and help with any fundraising ideas and events.
Monthly Ball Lottery
You pledge to play for 12 months at £5 per ball per month. You can pay monthly (payment must be made by the 1st of the month) or by a single payment for the complete period (see below how to do this). Once your name has been entered a numbered wooden ball will be randomly selected for you and the number on that ball will remain yours for the 12 month period. You would be notified of your allocated number before the first draw takes place.
On the second Friday of each month, the winning numbers will be drawn and 50% of the proceeds will then be paid out in 3 prizes. eg: with 100 entries the prize money would be as follows: 1st Prize £150, 2nd Prize, £75 and 3rd Prize £25. If the entries are lower, then the prize money will be less, however with a higher number of entries the prize money will be more. With 36 prizes over the 12 month period you will have many chances of winning!
Winners will be notified by email, phone or letter. A list of winners will be displayed on the notice board by East Garston Village Hall and on Penny Post here.
Records will be kept and audited appropriately.
Every month the first ball drawn has been winning over £200, the second over £100 and the third over £30.

Make a Donation that will be match funded
Another way to support this appeal is to make a donation on The Good Exchange which will be match funded by the Greenham Trust. This means for every £1 donated on the funding platform the Greenham Trust will match £1 for £1, this is up to £5,000. If you are a tax payer then please use the Gift Aid Option which will give an extra 25% to your donation, so for every £1 you donate the bell fund will receive £2.25!
