American Soft Dough Cookie Recipe

soft dough cookie recipe

This is an easy recipe for kids to enjoy and you can make it with either dried fruit or chocolate. Thanks to Sara Jones and her 6 year old son Ted for sharing this recipe.

150g butter
100g brown sugar
125g self- raising flour
1tbsp golden syrup
100g porridge oats (or 100g extra flour if you don’t want the oats texture)
150g dried fruit/chocolate chips/smarties/M & M’s/bashed up chocolate bars

1.  Heat oven to 180°c / Gas 5
2.  Sprinkle flour lightly on the tray to prevent sticking tray.
3.  Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl.
4.  Add the golden syrup.
5.  Place your flour in a sieve over a small bowl.
6.  Gradually add the oats and flour a bit at a time – mix after each addition, continue to do so until all the oats and flour have been used.
7.  Add in dried fruit/chocolate and stir.
8.  Place tablespoons of mixture onto the tray – remember they will spread so leave space.
9.  Place in the oven for 12 – 15 minutes.
10. Remove from oven (they will be soft but that is fine).
11.  Leave to cool on the tray for a few minutes.
12.  Remove to cooling rack.
