After a long period of extensive refurbishment, the Crown and Anchor in Ham re-opened in the summer of 2019 to ecstatic reviews and packed houses. Like every other pub in the land, it was forced to close at the end of March 2020 as a result of the pandemic. This has now been remedied and the inn has re-opened and is once more offering food, drink and accommodation.
“It’s been an interesting 12 months, to say the least,” said Manager Ben Milroy. “Having two re-openings in such a short space of time was not what we had planned. After the success of our first nine months it was heartbreaking having to shut the doors but we think we’ve used the time wisely. Regular guests will notice several little changes and it goes without saying that we’re taking care to be compliant with all the government guidelines about hygiene and social distancing.”
The Crown and Anchor has also been boosted by the recruitment of Gert Pienaar, who won accolades and awards while being for many years the Head Chef at Blandy’s at Audley Inglewood. “We’re delighted to have secured Gert’s services,” Ben said. “He’s one of the finest chefs in the area and will help add even more to our fast-growing reputation.”
As well as its bar, its restaurant and its outside areas at the front and in the garden at the rear, the Crown and Anchor also has eight bedrooms. “Our rooms have all the features, style and comfort you’d expect, from free wi-fi to antique desks,” Ben explained. “We’ve even got a special offer in August and September, with two nights (Wednesdays through to Saturdays) for the price of one. We’re also taking part on the government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme every Wednesday in August. We look forward to hearing from you!”
