The Lambourn Bakers

The Lambourn Bakers, all members of the Lambourn Volunteer group, wanted to share their passion for baking and say thank you to key workers and local businesses for doing a fantastic job in this recent time of difficulty, and to give a virtual hug with cake to those on their own, isolating or shielding.

The core team of five set up the group in the spirit of being by the community for the community in the Lambourn Valley, with guest bakers helping when they can.  The team were absolutely blown away by the demand, with people nominating individuals or businesses to receive baked goodies as a token of their appreciation and support.  The team have delivered these ‘hugs in a box’ across the Lambourn Valley with more than 240 nominations having been received since the beginning of May 2020, including specific dietary requirements such as diabetes, coeliac disease as well as vegan options.

#lambournbakers created lots of interest on social media and for anyone in the Lambourn Valley feeling low, vulnerable, bereaved, working tirelessly as a key worker or in need of community praise, thanks or help as well as businesses who have kept Lambourn running, it has lifted people with it’s simplicity, joy, love and positivity in these challenging times and been a force for kindness.

Donations of classic baking ingredients eg eggs, sugar, flour, icing sugar are always appreciated to help the volunteers with the costs, but not essential. They don’t expect it but it is a nice boost when it happens as these classic ingredients can still be tricky to source! If you would like to help please contact Freya on
