Local Libraries Re-open after Lockdown

It’s good to see libraries gradually returning to normality but please remember that wearing face coverings is now mandatory in public libraries.

West Berkshire

West Berkshire Libraries are delighted that the Order & Collect service we have been running for the past couple of months has proved successful. As well as continuing with this, the library service is now moving forward with the next phase, which will enable public access to all our library buildings across the district.

From Monday 21 September customers will be able to choose and borrow books in person during limited opening hours at all West Berkshire libraries.

Customers will not need to book a time to visit, but the number of people within each building will be limited and so you may need to queue to get in. Library staff will ask you to keep your visiting time to about 30 minutes and to use the hand sanitiser provided on entry and exit. Test and Trace contact details will be collected at the door.

Computers and printing/photocopying facilities will be available, but there will be fewer computers in order to ensure adequate social distancing. Customers will be able to use a computer for one session of 45 minutes per day. There will be no other seating or study areas available within the libraries and no access to toilets, baby changing facilities or refreshments.

There is more good news for those that are unable to visit your local library over the next few weeks but still have books at home that you borrowed before lockdown – the fines amnesty has also been extended and there will be no fines charged on items due for return between 20 March and 30 September 2020.

You can find out opening times of the libraries at info.westberks.gov.uk/libraries or call the libraries direct on these numbers:

Wantage Library

Wantage Library is now open: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 9am – 5pm, Thursday: 9am – 1pm, Saturdays: 9am – 4.30pm

When you visit there will be some changes:
– We will collect your name and contact details on a Track and Trace form when you enter
– Short visits are encouraged – keep your visit to 30 minutes
– Payments to be made by card or online (photocopiers will still be operated by coin).
– Most soft seating and tables have been removed.
– All newspapers and magazines have been removed
– Public toilets won’t be available
– Face-to-face programmes and events won’t run until government advice informs us it is safe to do so, but regular Rhymetimes, Storytimes and events will be running via our Wantage Library Facebook page!

Please call us on 01235 762291 to check what services we are currently offering.

If you are in a vulnerable group and shielding, we advise that you follow government advice for your protection. Ask a family member, friend or neighbour to collect or return your items.

Don’t visit and risk spreading the virus and a possible library closure by ignoring advice if you feel unwell.

Marlborough Library

Marlborough Library and many Wiltshire Libraries are now open, although some have an order and collect service rather than browsing. You can also book to use a computer. Click here for opening times and how to order your books and book a 45 minute computer slot.
