In addition to EYFS, Year 1 and Year 6 children, we were delighted to welcome back children from Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 this week; we have close to 50 children now attending school.
It was lovely to see the children again as they got used to the new systems in place. They are excellent hand-washers, know to socially distance and can tell you which way round the school you have to walk to get to the toilet! It all feels like the normal routine.
Meanwhile, we are also updating the home learning pages daily and responding to emails from parents every morning. The favourite home learning weeks so far, parents and children tell us, have been the inventions week and the arts week.
For arts week, the children made a tile picture (above) having been inspired by a book called “Swirl by Swirl: Spirals in Nature”. They either made the tile in school or sent it in and (after 72 hours quarantine) we were able to put all the tiles together.
Rev. Miri has helped with Collective Worship which we upload to the website and every fortnight, we ask the children to nominate someone who has shown a Christian Value. Here is just one example: “I would like to give a Christian Values friendship award to Finley for thinking of me even though we haven’t seen each other for such a long time, it made me really happy and reminded me of you and our friendship.”
Sports Day at Home was another ‘hit’ and next week we are having a Book Day and follow up activities so that we can encourage the children to keep on reading over the summer break.
Plans for September are being implemented and emotional wellbeing will be an essential element, alongside identifying the learning gaps and creating a curriculum that addresses those needs.
We continue to be incredibly proud of our children, their parents and the staff – it’s been a real team effort!
