News from the Friends of Hungerford Primary School – March 2020

Jumble Sale Success

Hungerford, you did us proud with your donations, help and spending your money with us. It was soooo busy. We raised a whopping £1079 profit, all of which gets ploughed back into providing those
all-important resources for our children to benefit from. Huge thanks to The Town Hall for such an excellent venue, and to all those businesses that supported us:
Interprint, Dickins Hopgood Chidley, Christian Alba’s Traditional Butchers and Tesco.

We will be doing it again next year and would love to have a few more sponsors to help us hire a van next time.  If you can help, we’d be delighted to hear from you. Please email us at: Hungerford.primary.pta@gmail.com

What do we do with the leftovers?

We are committed to reusing and recycling as much as we can. These are the charities/organisations we’ve given to so far:

·       Various charities – clothing

·       Ellie Dickins – shoes for recycling

·       Noreen’s Kids – warm clothes for children in Romania

·       Camp Hopson bra donation box

·       Hungerford Primary School – books and toys

·       Hungerford Nursery – books and toys

·       Hungerford Hub – jigsaws for the jigsaw club

·       Blue Cross – handbags and clothing

·       We also have lots of books which we can
hopefully sell on to make a bit more to add to the pot.

Shopping at the Co-op

We applied to the Co-op community Fund and have been chosen as a local cause this year!

We want to buy some floor robots to teach students computer programming skills to prepare them for future success in life

If you’re a member of the Co-op, please log in and select us as the cause you’d like to support. If you’re not a member, please do sign up. Being a member gives you savings in store too. Go to www.coop.co.uk

West Berkshire Lottery tickets

You can also buy West Berkshire Lottery tickets in support of our cause, and be in with the chance of winning some cash yourself. If just 10 tickets are bought every month we are eligible to apply for West Berkshire lottery grants.  If you haven’t signed up yet visit our page: westberkshirelottery.co.uk/support/friends-of-hungerford-primary-school

Going Green

We have successfully applied for funding to buy litter picking equipment for the school Eco Council, which is made up of pupils representing each year group. They have some great plans to improve our school environment.

How else can you support us?

Did you know that you can support us while you do your online shopping? You can do this really easily through Give as You Live: giveasyoulive.com/join/hungerfordprimarypta

Or through Amazon Smile: smile.amazon.co.uk

Thank you

Finally, and most importantly, thank you to all our lovely local businesses who support us, and our teachers, fellow parents and children who help to make all these plans come to fruition!

Friends of Hungerford Primary School

Hungerford.primary.pta@gmail.com

The Friends of Hungerford Primary School (formerly PTA) is a charitable organisation formed by parents, which supports Hungerford Primary to provide the best educational experience for our children.

We work with the school to provide support, both financial and practical.

We fund-raise, make grant applications and try to find skilled induviduals to help us. We also support parents directly with practical solutions such as our second hand school uniform sales.

In addition to supporting the school in its everyday needs we are currently building relationships between the school and other Hungerford-based groups to raise the profile of the school in the community.
