“We organsied the lunch for anyone who is lonely on Christmas Day. We have some volunteers who were up to 81 years of age who ought to have been guest but they came as volunteers because they did not want to be by themselves on Christmas Day. explains Joanna Abraham. “We had a very dedicated team of about 75 volunteers including entertainers and drivers ranging from ages 2- 81 years old”
Amongst the volunteers were Councillor Phil Barnett and his lovely wife Vera. The Mayor of Newbury Councillor Elizabeth O’Keeffe and her Consort John Gardner attended the lunch and spent time engaging with guests and volunteers.
It was described by one of the guests as a very great and memorable day. And a volunteer who would have spent the day by herself had this to say after the event: “Dear Joanna, I had no where to go and God looked after me. I got back more than I put in. Thank you for giving up your Christmas Day to make so many of us feel less lonely. Love and blessings.”
