West Berkshire’s Family Placement Team is currently looking for new foster carers. Do you have the warmth, empathy and passion to care for a child or young person who can no longer live with their birth family? Many of the children we work with have come from homes where they have experienced or witnessed harm. They need a safe and loving home in which to learn how to express their feelings, share their thoughts and develop into adulthood. If you have some child care experiences and a spare room then we would love to hear from you.
Our service offers foster carers regular reflective supervision, high quality training, peer support from other carers, a chance to work with other professionals, regular newsletters and a competitive allowance. In return we expect foster carers to be child-focussed, be proactive at problem solving, attend key meetings and ensure a child is included in their own family. Our children and young people want their carers to be happy and approachable, trustworthy, committed, welcoming and have clear morals and values.
To become a foster carer you would attend a pre-approval training course, be subject to statutory background checks and take part in an interview-style assessment before presenting to Fostering Panel for full approval. Your journey will be supported by an experienced social worker with an opportunity to meet other foster carers.
