Cheesey Flapjack Recipe

If you like savoury snacks that taste good and are filling too then try this cheesey flapjack recipe which has the thumbs up from Hungerford Youth Club (even though the idea of savoury flapjacks sounded weird to them at first).

Ingredients (makes 24 flapjacks)

350gm porridge oats (soft ones)

150gm seeds & nuts (eg sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flaked almonds)

250gm cheddar cheese (grated)

125gm butter

2 eggs

2 tbspns soya sauce

2 tbspns worcestershire sauce

2 teaspoons mustard (dijon or grain)

3 teaspoons paprika


Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees centigrade. Line a baking tray with baking paper. I use a 15 inch by 11 inch tray.

Melt the butter and stir in the soya sauce, worcestershire sauce, mustard, paprika. 

Crack in 2 eggs and stir. Make sure butter isn’t too hot before you add the eggs otherwise they will cook.

Then stir in the oats, seeds, nuts and half the grated cheese. Mix well.

Spread the mixture evenly in the tray and bake for approximately 10 minutes until it starts to bubble. 

Bring the tray out of the oven and spread the rest of the grated cheese evenly over the top. 

Put it back in the oven for another 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and the surface is golden.

Take the tray out of the oven and cut the squares while it is still warm and soft. 

Once the flapjacks have cooled you can separate them.

If they crumble then you have a tasty savoury granola snack!
