Maymessy is a place where good food gets its boots muddy, offering kids and young adults needing support the chance to follow their fruit and veg from plot via pan to plate.
Maymessy is an empowering cookery school for disadvantaged young people to learn life skills and gain greater wellbeing. Set up as a social enterprise in 2017, it supports local charities which bring young people to Maymessy so they spend time in the vegetable plot, learn how to cook recipes from top-class chefs and finally sit down to scoff a plateful of tasty and nutritious food which they have helped prepare.
“Maymessy has provided two absolutely fantastic cookery workshops for our charity Be Free Young Carers. The young people who attended were aged between eight and 17 yet the workshops were tailored wonderfully to meet the needs and skills of every single child making them feel valued and important. There was lots of laughter, lots of fun and lots of delicious food made and most importantly, they all left feeling more confident, proud of their achievements and very happy. One child commented that “I was smiling the whole time” while another stated “I absolutely loved everything because I learnt lots of new things yet I had loads of fun!”. We would highly recommend Maymessy and we’re so grateful for their wonderful support of our charity.”
